These paintings of Peter Hujar's portraits are done in homage to my queer ancestry. I began this body of work in 2008 as part of my own exploration of contemporary queer art history. Now I make these paintings because I love the work, and I love making them.

It's that simple really.

Hujar, Wojnarowicz and most of the people in these images are gone now. In making these paintings, I am paying my respects to the doors their lives and work opened for my generation of queer artists.

Each painting is done in black watercolor on 8"x 8" paper
